I have read that there are quite
a few people having problems setting up IMAP with Windows 6.1
The instructions below should assist you setting this up.
1. Click on "Start", then "Programmes" and then
""Messaging". You should then see the options of setting
up an E-mail account.
2. Click on "Set up New E-mail address".
3. Enter your email address (E.g. gmail@gmmail.com)
but make sure you mistype Gmail and type gmmail. This is very important and I
will explain why next.
4. Enter your Gmail password and
click next.
5. The next page will display “Try
to get e-mail settings automatically from the internet”. Uncheck this box. (If
you did not mistype your @gmmail.com address on step number 3, then Palm Treo
Pro will get the POP settings of Gmail and will activate your POP settings on
your Gmail account. We don’t want that and want to use IMAP. Click next after
unchecking the box.
6. Select Internet e-mail as your e-mail
provider and click next.
7. Enter your name as you would
like it to appear on your outgoing emails.
8. Change the account display
name from “gmmail.com” to “gmail.com” and click next.
9.Type imap.googlemail.com as
your incoming mail server.
10 Select IMAP as the account type and click next.
11. Enter your Gmail User name (e.g.
tony@gmail.com).
12. Enter you Gmail password and
check the save password box and click next.
13. Enter the outgoing server “smtp.googlemail.com”.
14. Check “Outgoing server
requires authentication”.
15. Check “Use the same user name and password for
sending e-mail”. Click advanced settings and check “Require SSL for Incoming
e-mail” and “Require SSL for Outgoing e-mail”. Network connection “The Internet”
and click done.
16. Click Next. Change Automatic
Send/Receive to whatever you want. Mine is at “Every 5 minutes”.
17. Click Finish.
18. Go back to
Messaging-Highlight Gmail- Use menu tab and go to options-double click on
gmail- Review settings- change email address from @gmmail.com to @gmail.com
(and click next until you finish).
19. All done. Palm Treo Pro
configured to IMAP.
